Root Canals

Many patients associate root canals with pain and discomfort

Root canals are valuable procedures used to treat and preserve teeth with badly infected nerves. The pulp is the living portion of the tooth that extends into the root and contains nerves and tissue. When it becomes infected, it can cause pain, swelling, and even lead to tooth loss if not treated. A root canal removes the damaged tissue and infection from inside the tooth.

In some cases, an antibiotic may be prescribed to help prevent further infection. The remaining structure of the tooth is often restored with a crown to provide a natural appearance and normal function. With modern techniques and local anesthetics, root canals are typically no more uncomfortable than receiving a standard filling.

More than 9 out of 10 root canal procedures are successful, and many last for years or even a lifetime. Overall, a root canal is a straightforward procedure that can save a damaged tooth and restore your oral health.
